Michael Cimino (actor)

Yes! Before season one, they said something like that about inclusivity and inclusion in the cast. But they never kept the promise.
Funnily enough HSMTMTS came through with that way more effectively and its definitely a less explicitly "gay" show. Lol

Just that you can tell by the way he words his answers in interviews “I just feel so honored to be trusted with this story” and “Going into the role, Keyvan spoke with his real-life family about the state of Muslim LGBTQ+ folks. "Talking to my dad about it, he told me that in the Muslim community, being queer is like forbidden," reflects Keyvan.”
Any gay person would already know that.

So, nothing explicitly stated about his sexuality but he has all the standard straight actor answers that we’ve all seen before”
Seem like a reach ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I’ve been following him for a couple months on Instagram and I haven’t caught a whiff of heterosexuality. Plus he’s going to be on generation on HBO max which is the complete opposite of love victor in term of casting queer actors to play queer characters. Not saying your wrong but seem a bit soon to start saying this as a fact

Ultimately I am happy with the 3 actors they cast and I couldn’t see anyone else in the roles, but there should be actual gay actors on the show, whether they play gay or straight characters.

But he was only on 1 ep of Generation and he played a straight guy.

It is my belief that Michael is Queer. He atleast falls somewhere on the Queer spectrum. And I atleast do not think that is me having wishful thinking, but it is through everything I have seen, heard, and read. No where has Michael come out and said he was Queer. In fact he has stated he was Straight. And while I will not dispute the guy's most absolute choice to speak his identity in the way he currently chooses, I remain firm in thinking that he is Queer. And I hope someday, possibly sooner rather than later, he will be bold enough and Come Out, or at the very least admit it to himself.

He did an interview where he talked about how he had to reach out a friend from high school who is gay to ask about the experience of being gay in high school since he didn't know from his own background.

Why "Love, Victor" Star Anthony Keyvan Is "a Little Bit Team Rahim"

What was your research for playing Rahim? Did you talk to any queer teens or high schoolers?
One of my good friends who I grew up with in Orange County, we went to school together until the eighth grade and we’ve kept in touch, and he’s been open and out of the closet since I think freshman year of high school. So he’s pretty secure in who he is and what he wants and stuff. And I remember calling him when I got the job, and I was like, “I need your help. Tell me everything. I want to know what it’s like. I need to figure out what it means to be queer in high school.” I went over to his house, and we just talked for a few hours and he told me his experiences. A lot of them were lovely experiences, and a lot of them weren’t. And I was able to pull from what he told me and some other people who I’ve spoken to about it and really develop what it feels like to portray a character like that.

Jesus Christ they can't find ONE gay actor for the principal cast?

I love this show so, so, so much. Openly wept throughout much of season two. But come the fuck on. There were always shitloads of gay actors when I was in theater.

I'm not massively bothered by the sexuality of the cast. As actors their job is to play a role - to be someone they are not - as long as they do a convincing job, which all of the cast do I'm happy.

I always think it's a dangerous path to start going down saying that gay roles have to be filled by gay cast members, what happens if someone starts saying that only straight people can play straight roles, we can't complain as they could rightly say that it's double standards.

As long as LGBTQ+ actors are getting roles as actors, it really shouldn't matter if the role they are playing is an LGBTQ+ role or not.

Michael Cimino has done a superb job portraying Victor, is convincing and now I couldn't think of anyone I would rather see in the role.

I mostly agree with you. The only problem I have is that they rarely cast gay actors in prominent straight roles. There are many casting directors and producers that won’t even consider a gay actor in a straight role. Matt Bomer & Brandon Flynn, for example, would be much bigger stars if they were straight. If Hollywood would stop being so homophobic, I wouldn’t care who plays gay and who plays straight.
That being said, I am very happy with the actors playing the gay roles on Love Victor. I just don’t think the entire cast should be straight. For this particular show it seems like a slap in the face to the gay community.

Think you might be missing the bigger picture here. No one is saying lgbt roles should only be played by lgbt people. The issue is lgbt actors (And let's specify openly gay actors here) Don't get that many leading roles in romantic series as it is. Whether gay or straight stories. (of course you can cherry pick some outliers)

It's about them getting a chance at least for a gay series (because the chances are certainly lower landing a straight character). And of course this is all with the general subtle homophobia of Hollywood as a backdrop as well. So this isn't a criticism within a bubble. And also isn't meant to slam the cast of LV. They're just working actors accepting a good role doing their jobs. It's moreso an overall criticism that extends past just this one show. But it's particularly noticeable for a series like this, for obvious reasons.

I'd also like to elaborate: I would have no problem with a mixed-orientation cast whatsoever. Not even necessarily gay playing gay, but say some straight actors playing gay, some gay actors playing straight, etc. I loved that about Queer As Folk. It sort of underlines the greater point that sexuality isn't solidly binary. But to not have a single gay main cast member is kind of shitty.

AGAIN, I cannot praise the actors enough. They nail it and I love them in the show and outside of it. I just wish we could have actual gay people in a show so close to the gay experience.

Absolutely agreed. I would love to see more Neil Patrick Harris in HIMYM type castings. (I.e. gays playing straight characters) . We see the opposite so often and while it's welcome it's just a tiny bit frustrating when it only happens one way.

This show is all about gay guys, but they all act pretty straight since they’re all played by straight people. That’s why it feels inauthentic to me.

Mason seems pretty gay or bi lol. He has referred to his past partners in gender neutral terms and also referred to one as “that *n word*”. Most of the time black people use that term with men, not women.

Straight people don’t own masculinity. People always assume I’m straight. I don’t think there’s only one way to play gay. I think Victor, Benji & Rahim are 3 different kinds of gay people.
