Michael Cimino (actor)

The people getting the hate should be the Producers. I can see them casting a straight actor in a gay role but all 3 of the gay roles are played by straight actors! That is ridiculous. And it’s hard to say this show is groundbreaking when there is not a single openly gay man in that cast. How is this acceptable?
But no hate should go toward the actors. Especially when they are true allies.

Neither is Nick Robinson, but I am thankful they didn’t bring back that Kenan Lonesdale or however you say his name, he’s such a dud and I was hoping they would say Simon had dropped him and had gotten a hot boyfriend or sugar daddy. I’m assuming from the end we won’t see Nick again though?

It seems like they were bringing his involvement to a close.

So based on your logic no gay person should play a str8 role. Maybe they did audition gay people for the rolls but didn’t find the right fit for the roles that were playing! After all doesn’t Michael play a kind of gay str8 acting jock?

While I do agree that queer characters should be played by queer actors, I think even more important is to see queer stories being told by actual queer creators.
Also, I think it's illegal in California to specify sexuality on your casting call (which is understandable, Hollywood is still very much a homophobic industry, so if they were only auditioning queer actors, it'd require them to be all out, which is a very personal thing)

Slightly off topic I do not know if this was mentioned in earlier posts?. Michael says the strongest opposition of him playing 'Victor Salazar' from some of his own family members (Attitude magazine interview), reminds me of when Pierson Fode, from a podcast interview, that his own parents disowned when he portrayed 'Ely Diamond' in Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List (2015).

Wait what is wrong with Keiynan exactly?

I don't think that is what they're saying. It's just that it's so tired and expected that the roles so often go to the straights in situations like this. Nicholas Hamilton was featured on the season as a guest role. He could have gotten one of those lead roles. I'm sure he tried. Lol

If we are really to get into it - a substantial chunk of hollywood is gay, and I recall with some amusement from an office at an airline, and the director (I think of customer experience) said to the manager (of a group that was largely white gay men) "so do you think he is one of us?" and hilarity ensued. And someone got the job and someone didn't. The nice thing about working for an airline is to remind yourself that you are being grossly underpayed on the grounds that your travel benefits make up the difference.

Sure, Cimino is straight, but if I'm not wrong, there weren't any definitive answers regarding the sexuality of Benji's and Rahim's actors.
Benji have a gf irl, and rahim, i think its pretty obv already

Does anyone have a confirmation; on the kid who plays Rahim (Anthony Keyvan), sexuality? I’ve been seeing people say he’s straight but seen no evidence to support that.
Just that you can tell by the way he words his answers in interviews “I just feel so honored to be trusted with this story” and “Going into the role, Keyvan spoke with his real-life family about the state of Muslim LGBTQ+ folks. "Talking to my dad about it, he told me that in the Muslim community, being queer is like forbidden," reflects Keyvan.”
Any gay person would already know that.

So, nothing explicitly stated about his sexuality but he has all the standard straight actor answers that we’ve all seen before”

I agree with you and this confirms again that when they said they wanted to include LGBT+ members in the cast they just lied.
