According to some Jewish law, it passes through the mother’s lineage. Depending on your faith, you might be spared from circumcision because of that. Of course it gets messy based on the many interpretations of Jewish identity, but I’m not an expert.
I only know because I had a Jewish friend who was getting very serious with her Catholic Eastern European (like, actually from there) boyfriend/fiancé and this was a contentious argument. Both were strongly in favor of their own views and she cited her Jewish identity as why their future sons should be circumcised. I’ve lost contact with them since.
