Richard Madden (Robb Stark in GOT)

If they are dating, it looks like they were arguing or fighting here cos they look upset or miserable, and in one particular picture (where they're seated) it looks like the other guy is in tears...
To me it just looks like they're bothered by the paparazzi. Wouldn't you be?

And must we keep judging someone for the choice to be in the closet? If it's a choice and his partners are cool with that, then it in no way concerns us.
Yeah we can be nosy and want to know who he's with but he doesn't owe us coming out to the public, especially when it seems he's already out to the people who actually matter to him.

This is a person we don't know. We don't know his life, his relationships and the way he thinks, so talking about him as if we did is just pointless

Richard will never be able to have a healthy, stable relationship with another man until he learns that absolutely no one likes to be someone's dirty secret and be hidden and denied.
IDK, I'd be fine with being his dirty secret. It's not ideal but it's a step up from hookups and being single anyway.

Just because you don't publicly disclose a relationship for all the internet and gossip rags to dissect, doesn't mean you're in the closet. He's allowed to be as private as he wants to be, it's his life and his story. And many people who might want to be his partner also wouldn't want to have to deal with the public scrutiny.

Plenty of straight couple don't disclose their dating, why the higher standard?

The issue is not who he dates. The issue is his sexual orientation and his sudden desire for privacy when he's dating men.

Here's some pictures of Richard keeping his dating life private:

The issue is that if it were him openly kissing a man in these photos, Richard almost certainly wouldn’t have had half the major roles he’s known for now. Cinderella, Bodyguard, Eternals, those probably wouldn’t have happened. I can’t hate on him for not going the Matt Bomer route, his partners know what the deal is they’re not being duped.

LOL I knew he was dating Jenna years ago but for some reason it never occured to me that he was bi. I always thought he was gay. And yeah, I don't blame any actor for not flaunting their queer relationships in public because there are too many people in the world who will not watch a gay man play "masculine" roles, as stupid as it is

I think in the end that his sexual orientation concerns only and exclusively him, I just hope he gets many more projects soon

Reminder: Richard was kissing Taron Egerton in "Rocketman". A couple of decades ago, that would have been a career-ender, too.

The belief that "out and in a relationship" will damage a career is changing as old guard agents and managers retire, but as long as celebs keep playing the closet game, it will never change.

There have always been exceptions. Brokeback Mountain was one of them 20 years ago. The environment is “better”, but how often do you see an out gay actor portraying a straight lead role in a major movie? It easier to judge from the comfort of another life, sacrificial actors won’t change the industry.

So then become an A list actor and risk your own career by being openly out to break barriers. Expecting others to potentially ruin their livelihoods just because YOU want them to be out doesn't mean shit.

I would absolutely love to be his dirty little secret. I would rather be hidden than have it known to all 😜😂

I mostly agree. Closeted actors coming out won't change much. I think it really comes down to directors taking the chance and actually hiring already out gay actors to play these "straight lead roles" in major blockbusters to "change the industry" so to speak, granted those movies do well/make money.

Only once that becomes common place, will closet cases naturally come out, since they won't see being out as a career staller at that point. Fat chance though for that ever happening though

Mathematically, the number actors- gay or straight- who end up as the lead in a major movie is such a small percentage of all of the actors that it really is not the right metric. Only 14% of SAG-AFTRA members make at least $26K per year which is what is required to get your health insurance coverage. The percentage of "lead role" actors is a fraction of all of the actors working is a really really small number of actors.

Black actors (15% of the US population) are just now getting lead roles after over 100 years of Hollywood. There has always been gay lead actors who weren't out. There's also plenty of actors working today who are openly gay. With this younger generation identifying as 15-25% being LGBT, it's just a matter of time before there are out lead actors.

I'm old enough to remember when gay actors were told that coming out would be the end of their career. Now, we all can name plenty of working actors (that 14% of all actors) who are openly gay. We've proved that you can be a successful working actor, openly gay and it doesn't end your career. Eventually, one of them will move into a lead role.

But what actors like Richard Madden do by making it look like they're afraid for the public knowing that they are gay isn't helping.

what are you defining as "just now" exactly? Sidney Poitier won a best actor oscar in freaking 1964, and many black actors since then have had lead roles and won major awards/oscars as well. I'm not sure what timeline you're working with, so I wanted clarification.

Now when has an openly out gay man won a best acting oscar in all the decades of Hollywood? Despite Hollywood teeming with queers (and despite Hwood pretending to be so progressive?) Yeah, exactly.

But is he wrong to be cagey though? I think we all can agree Madden would love to play James Bond one day like so many actors do.

Polls done in just 2023 suggest that people still don't think the actor playing James Bond should be gay. I don't think things have progressed as much as you think.

So is it any wonder why some people keep things "private".

Jeez. Richard is not going to come to your door in person to thank you for defending him on a random porn forum.

That's a little like saying, "Obama was President in 2008, so racism in elections for political office has been fixed.".

Now when has an openly out gay man won a best acting oscar in all the decades of Hollywood? Despite Hollywood teeming with queers (and despite Hwood pretending to be so progressive?) Yeah, exactly.
Again, not a good metric. Oscars, like most of these awards, are awarded by vote of business insiders, so it's not a measure of public sentiment.

What is important is whether a gay actor is offered the role. You only get nominated for awards (and possibly win) if someone write a role for you and someone finances the project.

If you want the list of LGBT Academy Award nominees: Bates, Brando, Clift, Gielgud, Dean, Domingo, Hawthorne, Hulce, Laughton, McKellan, Redgrave and Winfield were all nominated. All were known in Hollywood circles to be gay. Brando won, even after giving interviews where he admitted he had relationships with men.

Gascón, Domingo and Erivo are nominated this year! This is Domingo's second nomination.

He's likely too short to play Bond. Most of the guys who played Bond were pretty tall- I think Connery was like 6' 2" or 6" 3" and was a bodybuilder before he became an actor.

Even if Madden were to be given the role, which I think is unlikely, he won't win awards for Bond. It's not the kind of role that gets nominations.

For what it's worth, I think Madden was overlooked for "Rocketman". He was good in the role and he managed to make a love/hate character likeable.
