what are you defining as "just now" exactly? Sidney Poitier won a best actor oscar in freaking 1964, and many black actors since then have had lead roles and won major awards/oscars as well. I'm not sure what timeline you're working with, so I wanted clarification.
That's a little like saying, "Obama was President in 2008, so racism in elections for political office has been fixed.".
Now when has an openly out gay man won a best acting oscar in all the decades of Hollywood? Despite Hollywood teeming with queers (and despite Hwood pretending to be so progressive?) Yeah, exactly.
Again, not a good metric. Oscars, like most of these awards, are awarded by vote of business insiders, so it's not a measure of public sentiment.
What is important is whether a gay actor is offered the role. You only get nominated for awards (and possibly win) if someone write a role for you and someone finances the project.
If you want the list of LGBT Academy Award nominees: Bates, Brando, Clift, Gielgud, Dean, Domingo, Hawthorne, Hulce, Laughton, McKellan, Redgrave and Winfield were all nominated. All were known in Hollywood circles to be gay. Brando won, even after giving interviews where he admitted he had relationships with men.
Gascón, Domingo and Erivo are nominated this year! This is Domingo's second nomination.
I think we all can agree Madden would love to play James Bond one day like so many actors do.
He's likely too short to play Bond. Most of the guys who played Bond were pretty tall- I think Connery was like 6' 2" or 6" 3" and was a bodybuilder before he became an actor.
Even if Madden were to be given the role, which I think is unlikely, he won't win awards for Bond. It's not the kind of role that gets nominations.
For what it's worth, I think Madden was overlooked for "Rocketman". He was good in the role and he managed to make a love/hate character likeable.
