Photos & Videos Marcello Hernández (SNL Comedian)

Is he "the star" or is he just cute and loud?
He's definitely one of them. Just for the impact he's making. Not that the cast has many right now.

Marcello. Bowen. Kenan. Sarah Sherman is maybe borderline, but we'll see if she actually crosses over into the mainstream. Newbie Ashley Padilla at least has what it takes I think. She's probably the best actor the show has right now.

But yeah, a lot of Marcello's star factor and popularity comes from the fact that he has no restraint and is adorable.

Bowen can be fantastic with the right material, both on SNL and in other things. But you can tell when he's working with stuff that doesn't excite him.

Kenan is vastly underrated for his ability to fit seamlessly into so many stock roles and scenes.

Sarah Sherman makes me cringe. I know that's part of her schtick, but it's too much for me to get in on the joke.

I'm not necessarily talking about how I, or any individual audience members, feel about their performing abilities. I'm talking more so about how they stand out amongst the rest of the cast, how often they're given material, and what kind of influence they have on pop culture, in a broader sense; which is what I tend to think "star" equates to. Sherman is starting to appear in commercials with Bowen now.

The reason I commented specifically on Padilla's performing ability, for example, was because I think that's what could potentially push her ahead to star status. Being a strong, consistently reliable actor definitely can't hurt in getting you into more sketches, and she has been appearing in more and more, while longterm cast members have been appearing in less.

It just varies. While she has acting, Marcello's hotness factor and balls to the wall approach is what's pushing him to the top. The fact that he is everywhere is what makes him a star.

Sarah ALWAYS performs like she's recording an 'Improv 101' instructional video or something!
