Wokeness is a dog whistle coming from non-Black folks since the word has been co-opted and changed to fit anti-Black agendas.
The problem before the bastardization of wokeness was that everyone who played video games was forced to see themselves in—and interact as—straight, white men. There was no issue because the perspective of straight white men had always centered and everyone else was just expected to suspend disbelief, shut up, and play the game.
And now that other stories are being told—other perspectives explored—it's wokeness??
Sometimes, I just think it would be better to admit to racism and white supremacy than to perform all of these mental gymnastics. For decades, we've been told that only straight, white men deserve their stories to be told. And we did that.
But this refusal to acknowledge other perspectives and existences speak to the fragility and insecurity of white supremacy, especially that of the straight, white male. I know due to years of occupation and genocide, people have been forced to abide by eurocentric gender ideologies, but those gender ideologies are NOT the normal state of the world, no matter how much Abrahamic religions shove them down your throat.
This anti-Wokeness moment—just like every other counter movement to progress in history—is just an excuse for white boys to claim replacement theory is working. It's weak. And y'all should be ashamed of yourselves. But you've positioned yourselves in the world to not feel shame, or be held accountable. So. Fat chance.
oh, so i guess you missed the success of Richard Prior, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Danny Glover, Forest Withaker, Wesley Snipe...
all of them lead block busters movies prior to wokeness :x nobody ever complained.

the tv show Queer as Folk was made in 2000, was so succesfull it had both a english and a US version.
want older ? The Bird Cage, was a theatre piece, then it was turned into a movie in france, which had 2 sequels, and then a US adaptation.
also, how are "other perspective" being explored, when every woke movies is nothing but tropes, very often even blatantly actually racist ones ?
the games Forsaken and South of Midnight both star a black females, alright no problems,
but then both have absent fathers, and the first one is a criminal who rob money to buy sneakers...

the problem is not, and tbh has never been, representation of Poc or lgbt,
the problem is that big corpo are using fake representation to push crappy games and movies,
with horribly written characters and stories, full of tropes, bugs, and freeware level gameplay.

and sorry, it's not payback, as this kind of hatred hasn't been seen by any POC or LGBT in the west for if not centuries, at least 5 or 6 decades, needless to say more than any of the people complaining the loudest about it ever experienced themselves.
hatred is bullshit no matter which way it goes, and a smart man once said "an eye for an eye and the entire world will soon be blind", if racism and phobia was horrible back then, it is still today.
the truth is, wokeness isn't failing cause people are horrible german national socialists from the 40's,
it's because the vast majority of people know full well they're not istophobes but are able to judge people on the quality of their character and so aren't falling for the self hatred chtick anymore.
