Am I the asshole if...?

I'm sorry to read of your predicament Nic. It sucks.

One thing I learned along my long life is that people treat you the way you allow them to treat you.

I know if I were in your situation, I would have the talk with my Father and any siblings/other interested parties about how it's going to be going forward.

And if that doesn't change how he behaves/treats you, then you make other arrangements for his care and you remove yourself from that situation.

Is that viable for you? I don't know. It's harsh, I know.

I do know that for me, it's what I would be going. Being related to someone doesn't give them license to treat you poorly. You wouldn't tolerate it from a friend or acquaintance would you?

Good luck! :)

Talking to my father is not an option because he doesn't see any reason other than his own.

Over the years I have left home several times (I even changed countries) but after a while, for one reason or another, I had to return, we have no family (no one with whom we have close relationships enough to ask for help), I am an only child with parents of a certain age (mother 64 and father 78) and in precarious health (my mother has several pathologies that do not make her completely self-sufficient), there is only me.

I would really like to leave, but it is no longer feasible given the current state of things.
