Preliminary (1/3 eps)
The first two episodes of the three episode OVA follow Annie and her life as a member of the Military Police Brigade. This is set just before she attempts to capture Eren when he goes on his Expedition. The last episode follows Mikasa.

Without giving anything away other than a very brief overview, this is a great mini series than finally gives Annie and Mikasa some attention and love without focusing on the medieval Kirito...Eren. At first I was hesitant about watching it, not because I'm not a fan but because I have always found Annie to be a very 2 Dimensional character. Disregarding the big fight between her and Eren in the final episode of Season 1, she always had no emotions and focused on her goal, this made for very uninteresting scenes. However, this series is currently one episode in and completely smashes my image of her as it finally adds substance to her character. We get to see more of her "Human" side and of her emotions which really piqued my interest in her and changed my opinion of her.

The first episode features a utterly beautiful female rendition of "Call my Name" which is a homage to the first season and just fits so perfectly and brings back the feelings of just how great this anime is. The music is composed by the brilliant Hiroyuki Sawano who is nothing less than a genius.

Overall I give this a 9/10 based on the first episode alone. The combination of the story, characters, central theme and music makes it worthy of such a high score, as is expected by Wit Studio. I look forward to the rest of the series.
