...would you know it? And, if so, would you do something to correct it, or would you carry on?

Interesting question. I made a re-appearance on a board that I was an FOG on, then left due to dwindling interest (I was one of many and one of the last to leave). Anyway, the political section is such an uber-conservative, ongoing Klan meeting that spent the entire pre-election dredging up all the anti-Obama crap that we've all seen. Y'know, Sam and Will and 20+ more just like them. Well you know me. Being hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned is the way I like it so I hang out for a while doing the same thing that I do on our political section. Holy shit. I was called every name in the book and believe it or not, a couple members even devoted their signature lines to what an asshole I am. One guy couldn't even post in other sections without bringing me up. So anyway, obviously accusations of me being a troll was the first, middle and last things that they kept accusing me of. If you ask me, I was just bringing the Liberal perspective to the forum. And as God's my witness, they started the name calling first. But of course, once that path was cleared, I gave as good as I got. I mean, it is me we're talking about here.

Anyway, I got banned. It was lifted after the election, but when I went back, I wasn't allowed back into the politcal section (pussies). I haven't said a word there (in the other sections), and actually haven't tried to log in again. I can't give anymore back story without possibly revealing which board it is or giving interested parties here enough to work with. But if you asked them, they'd 100% tell you I was a troll. But I don't think I was. But Jesus Tapdancing Christ, I was one of the ones that made that board, I signed more than my share of newbies. Hell, I named one of the fuckin' rooms and it's still there today. And now I'm a frikkin' stepchild.

It's hard to post anything everyone agrees with and a lot of people confuse disagreement with trolling. It's the persistent antagonists that make dozens of threads on the same topic, repeating the same theme over and over and never offering any substantive dialog that truly earn the title of troll. I've been accused of being a troll merely for having a dissenting opinion, but that's not trolling, that's debate. It's not hard to be a troll, just start a semi-restrained spamming campaign, throw in a few non-trolling comments, and before you know it, you live under a bridge. Imagine how bad the board would suck if everyone decided to be an asshole and really started trolling as hard as some of the current dipshits. Honestly, the place deserves it for letting this shit get out of hand. It would be really easy to permanently dismiss the trolls but for whatever reasons, whatever, it's not happening and the board is worse for it.

Yes, this exactly. According to the popular definition of a troll, it's someone who purposefully posts on boards for the simple intention of getting a reaction. So yes, a troll would know full well what they're doing, but I doubt they'd take kindly to being called a troll.
