Sounds like an interesting game. I like the whole randomly generated exploration business. Probably a game I could easily sink a good 30-40hours in and possibly still want more. That's definitely worth 60$ for me.

The more I read and watch, the more I'm cooling off it.. Besides the technical issues, the survival and resource collecting seem to be much more of a focus than I was expecting or wanting, and there are questionable design decisions in regards to UI, inventory, etc.. It sounds quite lacking overall, at this point.

I'm just going to wait and see what state it's in by the time it gets the big discounts next year (something I would have done, anyway). I'm hoping for some big fixes by then, and am also curious to see how the modding scene develops.

Good reviews from a few youtubers I subscribe to:

Patch 1

AMD Phenom Support

Game is now confirmed working on Phenom CPUs.
Thousands of lines of assembly have been rewritten to support AMD CPUs. The game code no longer relies on anything above SSE 2,
Havok Physics has also now created new libs for us to add Phenom support.
Alt-Tab has improved

Some systems/configs were crashing or not pausing correctly on Alt Tab. This should now be resolved.
Improved Performance

On CPUs with 4 threads or fewer, performance has been improved.
On CPUs with exactly 8 threads, performance has also been significantly improved.
Framerate Stuttering due to Shader Caching

Framerate was initially stuttering due to shaders not being correctly cached by the GPU on some systems. We have replaced the GPU caching system. You may notice some stutter during the Galactic Map intro to the game (the very first time you run), but it should be smoother from then on. This is particularly true on ATI cards.
Max FPS Cap

On some CPU/GPU configurations, setting Max FPS to 60 or 30 was not giving 60 or 30 FPS (causing stuttering). This has been fixed.
Radeon 6xxx

Added support for this GPU, which doesn't support OpenGL 4.5 fully.
Save Corruption

Solution to try to prevent saves getting corrupted no matter what’s going on in background processes (see Patch 3 below, where we also are attempting to recover corrupted saves).
Intel GPU Detection

We do not currently support Intel GPUS. We are working on this for a future patch, to expand our min spec.
In the meantime, the game will now let you know if you are trying to run with an unsupported GPU. This will hopefully flag for some users that their high end GPU has not been selected.
Gsync

Gsync has been disabled by default, which was causing an issue for some users
Mouse Smoothing

Generally this is most helpful for players with sub-30 FPS.
Smoothing on mouse movement has been improved to prevent hitching or stuttering, and is now adjustable through the Options menu in “Mouse Smoothing”.
It defaults to off. If you feel micro stutters in framerate affecting controls, feel free to turn this up. If you feel the framerate is "slow" or "lumpy", please make sure that this is turned off
Patch 2

Stuck under the world

It was possible for players to save their game stuck under the terrain, leaving them stuck. This was caused by getting shot down in atmosphere, and their ship reaching ridiculous speeds as it crashed to the planet. This has been resolved.
Whilst it won't happen anymore, if you are currently already stuck under the world, we detect this and do our best to rescue you.
Crash after warping

Occasionally at random the game would lock up after a warp, or return to desktop. This was due to very specific timing in hardware (a threading specific bug) – meaning that unfortunately for some people it was regular, and for others they would never be able to recreate it. This was our most reported crash during gameplay, and has now been resolved.
Game failing to save until you died

If the player died, and then loaded the game ten times without saving, and then died, player progress wouldn’t be saved from then on until you died again. This is fixed now! This was also causing player’s saves to grow in size.
Crash fixes in scanning

Quite a rare crash, but in certain scenarios it was possible to scan from space or on planet and crash the game.
Crash warping inside a freighter

When warping into a battle sometimes the player warped into the inside of a freighter and everything went crazy :(
This is fixed now.
Patch 3

Stranded in Space Station

If you died in your ship while in atmosphere of a planet with a damaged ship, you could respawn in a space station with your launch thrusters and pulse engine damaged. If you did not have the resources to fix them then you could no longer take off and be stuck there. This will no longer happen.
Loading Corrupted Save Files

Some players have corrupted save files, we’ve been working with them to still load saves even if they are corrupted (this can happen for many reasons outside of the games control). This fix has allowed many players to still load their save even if they have become corrupt on PC.
Crash fixes for next three most commonly reported issues:

As the player gathers a huge amount of discoveries, there was a threading issue that becomes more prevalent the more discoveries you have, and could cause the game to crash.
If you had collected a large number of blueprints, in a specific order it was possible to crash the game when you received a new blueprint. This has been fixed.
Players who set a large number of waypoints could find themselves in a situation where they could crash the game in the Galactic Map, this is remedied now (PS. A better waypoint system is coming).

Say what you want about Hello Games but the fact that they have an experimental branch of patches with nearly daily patches that fix various things in fast and steady manner is unprecedented goodwill.

Also commendable that instead of getting into drama and providing fuel for haters, they instead chose to just actively work on the game providing results.

The UI will get overhaul slowly. They already confirmed the overhaul to waypoint system and first free major update will hit next week.

The modding scene is already active as Hello Games did not lock the game files behind any weird evil encryption methods.

A lot of things were removed from the initial release that were said to be in game (watch the review above for examples). One element being the several lifeform models shown in the trailers were probably removed as well, the brachiosaurus model for example and large flying creatures too. Unless someone can prove otherwise.

Whether we actually see them in the future patches I wouldn't know.

Procedural. Generation.

People discovered far better looking ones and far worse looking ones. Stop linking a meme video.

Being PROCEDURAL means that whether you WILL or will not encounter stuff like that is entirely up to your luck. Its hilarious to see people unable to get such a simple term. I bet people like the one who made that video, if he was made to roll a dice six times in a row, would argue for hours that rolling other outcomes is impossible since it did not happen to him.

It's nice of them to actively fix things that should have worked in the first place... These problems shouldn't have even occured if they tested it beforehand :/ Too many people experience these, it seems like they didn't even try the game out on anything but their own computers.
Or perhaps they don't get into the drama because they know the customers are right? :D This whole mess could have been avoided with a Beta or, you know, saying that some of the promised features had to be cut or will be available later as a free patch/upgrade. But that would have probably make less money since people would have waited... This is what business is like, I know.

I didn't play and don't plan to play the game, but this release is hilarious from what I've seen so far. I'm not trying to bash the game since I know I "didn't experience it myself", and believe me I can see why this game can and could be fun (I like games like Terraria and Starbound), and the procedural generation in this game is quite cool, but the fact still remains that the creators spoke about things that should have been in the released game, and not just "oh we will try to add it later". It's just as a lot of people said (even Angry Joe), it has sooo much potential, but currently, the released game doesn't really seem to worth the price. With the upcoming and future upgrades? It might be worth it, but not now, and not with this much technical problems both on the PC and on the PS4.

I respect everyone who tries to defend this game. If you like it as it is, good for you, but at least try to understand why people are pissed. And I'm not talking about those who expected something like Destiny, putting baseless hopes into the game, when this clearly was going to be about mining, exploration and resource management. I'm talking about those who watched the interviews and the trailers, and expected to see and experience the game they talked about in those, without removed/not working features and technical issues.

This whole argument is pointless... That's why people (those saying the game isn't what they expected/were promised on) probably stopped responding in this thread. Still, I had fun reading both sides :'D

Yeah Fai, let's judge a review because of an opinion Joe had about pricing ...
You need to come to realise that this game is a big lie and dissapointment ... even if you do enjoy this game a lot.

Angry Joe's video is on point.
Pretty much biggest dissapointment of the year to many players, maybe not even just this year honestly.

Its fair to judge a a review, which is an opinion, on the rest of opinions of the said person.
A person who kept asking "but what do you DO in No Man's Sky" would obnviously not like the game.

You need to come to realise

No I don't. Opinions are not universal.
that this game is a big lie

Yes, the old troll narrative going around. A "lie". riight, except nobody provided actual arguments on what they lied on.
and dissapointment ...

To you.

Plenty of people enjoy the game. Yet again, the reaction is NOT negative. It is DIVISIVE. Just as many people enjoy the game and got what they expected. Don't twist the narrative.

Pretty much biggest dissapointment of the year to many players, maybe not even just this year honestly.

This only highlights how moronic and overblown the hate narrative for this is when people outright ignore ACTUALLY bad games like Fallout 4 or Batman Arkham Knight just to try to put down a game they never had an interest in. The hypocrisy surrounding this is just hilarious.

Coming to realise was a suggestion, you don't have to obviously :)

Except people DID actually provide actual arguments on the lies, you can find it all over.
But I assume most of the arguments given are not considered lies to you, do you actually think everything Sean Murray has said has come true?
And please don't say "but just because you haven't seen it yet doesnt mean it's not there" argument.

It's not a dissapointment to me, I really don't care about the game, already had a lot of doubts seeing it at E3 etc.

I never said it was just negative did I? - Best example would be you and I know there are people that like the game for what it is.

"Bad games like Fallout 4 or Batman AK" ... so those games should be actually onsidered bad? Anyway your opinion, I actually liked Fallout 4.
Just like you really like No Man's Lie ... uhm Sky.

I'm done with you anyway, you already have a steady and solid opinion on the game which is fine. - I don't think there's any reason for me to convince you otherwise, nor was it my intention :)

? arkham knight is looked at as a joke and one of the biggest examples of lacking basic competency when it comes to pc ports, the response was so overwhelmingly negative that they had to pull it off of steam and you'll get the same response the large majority of the time when you ask someone about it.

fallout 4 was also met with fairly mixed responses from players after release and even recent steam reviews are currently mixed - i don't particularly like it either but it wasn't some egregiously terrible game.

so in what world do you live where these games were ignored? people are ignoring them now because they're no longer relevant and there's 10,000,000 alternatives to either of them.
even if they were that bad they still don't refute what you were quoting, arkham knight being bad last year doesn't make no man's sky objectively less of a disappointment to every player on the planet this year. no man's sky being a disappointment to many players is observably true, and to many players it likely is the biggest disappointment of 2016.

it is also pretty amusing how everything negative about no man's sky is just an opinion but these two games are apparently objectively bad and that it was mentioned how funny it is that other people are hypocritical.

Most of that already been debunked. The rest are pretty much nitpicks over details that were not advertised and can change over the course of game development.

And of course leave it to "gamez jurnalizm" harassers to create a whole hate website :)

I don't even know why people even care anymore. The game is apparently (or so I heard) already a success based on the sales from the first two weeks, so all these lies/compilations videos are pretty much worthless and mostly a waste of time.

The only thing they could somewhat achieve at this point is hurting their reputation as a studio, but then again, Bethesda and Todd Howard are claimed to be big liars by the community and people keep buying their products regardless.

7 Dollar Pablo is a dumbass, but this review is one of the best I've seen from him. Actually convinced me not to even pirate the game. His experience aside, what really bothered me was finding out about how much the devs lied. I mean no shit people had high expectations, the devs really did promise a lot more, and released nothing. He's right about the pricing. The No Man's Sky that was promised might be worth 60 bucks, but the NMS we got is no different than the countless survival games on Steam for 3-4 times less money. Worst of all is, that cut content MIGHT end up as DLC, since they lied about that as well, and are preparing some DLC for the nonexistant player base.

The player base might have dropped a lot by now, but damage is already done, they won, they got the money. People will think twice before buying their next game though, so they're only damaging their own reputation.
